Over the weekend, National Review staff writer and Iraq War veteran David French was on MSNBC talking about a column he’d written for the publication about a potential third party run for the White House. French argued Mitt Romney had the best shot to challenge Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
This afternoon, it was French himself who was thrust into the conversation as that potential third party spoiler.
This all started Sunday, when Weekly Standard editor and ABC News contributor Bill Kristol tweeted this:
Just a heads up over this holiday weekend: There will be an independent candidate–an impressive one, with a strong team and a real chance.
— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) May 29, 2016
Neither Kristol nor French are commenting on this afternoon’s news.
Earlier Sunday, French was on Joy Reid‘s show talking about why a Romney run makes sense: “The Never Trump movement is flagging, but it would receive a massive steroid injection if Mitt Romney joined the race.”
