Dateline Producers Expanding Portfolio; MSNBC To Announce Primetime Tape Czar?

By Brian

The staff of Dateline “once provided three nights’ worth of prime-time reports for NBC. In the fall it will be down to one night,” today’s NYT piece on MSNBC notes. NBC News president Steve Capus says “you are going to see more of their work showing up in MSNBC.”

An NBC insider tells TVNewser that “some Dateline staffers have been told their unit will be producing a substantial amount of long-form taped programming for MSNBC, which will soon announce a primetime tape czar. Ultimately, the Dateline group, which has been producing programs for everyone from Discovery to Court TV under the NBC News Productions flag, will have a diverse portfolio of production, of which one part — an important one, to be sure — will be the Dateline show.”
