NBC’s Andrea Canning will debut the results of a new investigation into the celebrated case of Steven Avery tonight, with the broadcast of The State of Wisconsin vs. Steven A. Avery, on Dateline NBC at 10 p.m. ET.
The special promises new information and new interviews with key players in the case made famous by Netflix’s Making a Murderer. “We have the first interview with Kathleen Zellner, Steven Avery’s new lawyer, from outside Waupun Prison where she was going in to see Avery today. She says this saga is far from over and breaks news on the case,” Canning told TVNewser. “We look at all sides of the case, from the prosecution’s view of the case to the defense theory that evidence was planted.”
The special also includes a rare 2005 interview with Penny Beerntsen, the victim of the sexual assault case for which Avery was wrongfully convicted.
Another Dateline correspondent, Keith Morrison, will debut his own investigation, Steven Avery: Innocent or Guilty, premiering Saturday on the Investigation Discovery channel.
