Dateline NBC Mocks ABC’s 20/20 Over ‘Exclusive’

Dateline NBC accused ABC’s 20/20 of “partying like it’s 1999” for promoting a report featuring “never before seen tapes of O.J. Simpson in his own words about his wife’s death.” Dateline, however, insists those “secret tapes” have been seen–on Dateline, three times over the last 16 years.

On Good Morning America Friday, Elizabeth Vargas said “these tapes were locked away for 20 years…tonight on 20/20 we have a first look at those long-lost video depositions.”

Dateline, however, aired “Tale of the Tape” in 1999, featuring more than 14 minutes from the tapes. The tapes aired again on June 13, 2004 and a third time during a two-hour Dateline special just last year, “The People vs. O.J. Simpson: What the Jury Never Heard,” (though a promo for the 2014 special, featuring extensive interviews with key players from the “Trial of the Century” makes no mention of the video depositions).
