I’m both happy and sad to announce that Dan Renaldo is leaving us. NBC Universal made him an offer that he couldn’t refuse: to become their new EVP for Television Production company-wide. Besides the substantial responsibilities, it comes with front row seats to the Olympics.

Dan has contributed a very great deal to ABC News during his almost seven years here. He’s been at the center of our expansion into GMA weekend, digital, and HD. He’s helped us through some real crises, including 9/11, anthrax, and the attack on Bob and Doug. He’s kept us prudent in difficult financial times, but he’s always been a champion for what we do. We will miss him, but we understand his need to spread his wings, and we wish him well.

Dan leaves with us a very strong team. They will be reporting to me for the time-being, and I’ll be relying on Bob Murphy and Sandy Sidey to help keep all the trains running as we move quickly to fill Dan’s job.
