Dan Rather Is Looking For Diamonds

By Brian

“‘Deep cable’ is the outer space of TV. It’s where strange entities bear names like HDNet and the Discovery Channel. But deep cable is where you’ll find legends Dan Rather and Ted Koppel anchoring newscasts,” Doug Elfman writes in today’s Sun-Times.

Rather describes “deep cable news with an allusion to Arthur Miller’s ‘Death of a Salesman’: ‘The jungle is deep and dark and dangerous, but there are diamonds in there. Journalistically, that’s how I look at this. It’s a wilderness, and I’m gonna plunge into it and hope we come out of it with a few diamonds.'”
