Dan Crenshaw Talks About His Appearance on SNL

By A.J. Katz

Congressman-elect Dan Crenshaw appeared on SNL over the weekend to accept an apology from SNL cast member Pete Davidson live on the air.

Why?

“We were hesitant at first, we weren’t sure what the skit was going to look like, we had a lot of veterans events planned this weekend of course, but in the end, we decided to do it because what better platform than to give a united message for the country, talk about forgiveness and then talk about veterans?,” he told Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin this morning on Today. “They let me do that last part, where we got a bit serious and I was able to give a message about what I think it means to connect with veterans how to bridge that gap between civilians and military.”

The previous week, Davidson had mocked Crenshaw’s appearance ahead of the midterms in a “first impressions” segment during Weekend Update.

Davidson had made a controversial joke about the eye patch Crenshaw wears — the former Navy Seal lost an eye while serving in Afghanistan — and received criticism from both sides of the aisle.

Crenshaw went on to his congressional race roughly 48 hours later.

When Crenshaw appeared next to Davidson at the Weekend Update desk on Saturday, he accepted Davidson’s apology while getting in a few jokes at Davidson’s expense, including having an Ariana Grande ringtone go off in the middle of the segment.

Here’s the full appearance, which has already garnered more than 5 million total views on You Tube since early Sunday morning:
