‘Daily Show’ Correspondent Aasif Mandvi Mocks CNN, MSNBC and FNC

By Brian Flood

This week during the the 2015 Radio and Television Correspondents Association Dinner, “Daily Show” correspondent Aasif Mandvi bashed cable news in a lengthy speech that was televised on C-SPAN. While the crowd didn’t seem particularly receptive, his sense of humor is perfect for the TVNewser crowd.

Among the many zingers, Mandvi said C-SPAN “needs to be more like CNN and just forget about the news.” Mandvi went on to say, “seriously, last week I saw Anthony Bourdain break into the Situation Room with breaking news about the most amazing Philly cheesesteak that he had ever had.”

CNN wasn’t the only network on the receiving end of Mandvi’s roast, saying C-SPAN could also go the Fox News route and “get the budget to shoot an unarmed black kid and then rush the budget’s defense… Arguing that the budget was written on white paper, and that’s why this is happening.”

Mandvi suggested that C-SPAN could be more like MSNBC before thinking, “but they’re [C-SPAN’s] ratings are so much better, it doesn’t even matter.”

When discussing the lack of Muslims in the media, Mandvi suggested that “Wolf Blitzer ate a falafel once.” Brian Williams, President Barack Obama, Joe Scarborough, Bill O’Reilly, Don Lemon and Sean Hannity also receive individual jabs.
