Cuban State TV Gets Question in White House Briefing

On Thursday, White House press secretary Josh Earnest took a question in the White House briefing room from Cristina Escobar, a reporter for Cuban state television–an historic Q&A that is believed to be a first in history.

President Obama announced in December a major shift in policy toward Cuba, and this week, as Bloomberg reports, members of the Cuban media are in Washington to cover talks at the State Department on the president’s effort to normalize relations with Havana:

Escobar asked whether there was a chance Obama might travel to Havana before the end of his term.

“I know there’s one person particularly that hopes President Obama will be in Havana at some point in the, at some point in the relatively recent future, and that’s President Obama himself,” he said.
