Fidel Castro Has Died

The cable news and broadcast networks remained in breaking coverage overnight with the news of the death of former Cuban president Fidel Castro.

CNN International broke in at 12:30 a.m. CNN U.S. began a simulcast of CNNI at 12:31 a.m.

MSNBC broke in at 12:30 a.m. and Fox News at 12:45 a.m. The cable news networks continued on and off with coverage into the overnight hours.

TLMDCastroTelemundo reported the news at 12:43 a.m, but had synching issues with the live camera, and had no graphics or video for the first half hour of coverage. Their anchor talked to a locked-down camera, with no commercial breaks, for 36 minutes. (There’s got to be some kind of award for that.)

Univision broke in to its nightly sports program at 12:51 a.m., before taking a break and returning to coverage later. ABC News aired a network special report at 1 a.m.
