The cable news and broadcast networks remained in breaking coverage overnight with the news of the death of former Cuban president Fidel Castro.
CNN International broke in at 12:30 a.m. CNN U.S. began a simulcast of CNNI at 12:31 a.m.
MSNBC broke in at 12:30 a.m. and Fox News at 12:45 a.m. The cable news networks continued on and off with coverage into the overnight hours.
Telemundo reported the news at 12:43 a.m, but had synching issues with the live camera, and had no graphics or video for the first half hour of coverage. Their anchor talked to a locked-down camera, with no commercial breaks, for 36 minutes. (There’s got to be some kind of award for that.)
Univision broke in to its nightly sports program at 12:51 a.m., before taking a break and returning to coverage later. ABC News aired a network special report at 1 a.m.
