Critics Still Taking Aim at Lou Dobbs

CNN host Lou Dobbs can’t seem to get himself out of the media crosshairs since the birthers controversy began more than three weeks ago.

Now, MarketWatch.com’s Jon Friedman is going so far as to claim Dobbs “has sold his journalistic soul to the devil.” In a column today, Friedman writes:

Some observers believe that he genuinely feels and expresses outrage over the failures of the government to safeguard America. But I see his in-your-face broadcasting style as a distinct ratings grab.

Former MSNBC host Bill Press, in a column for the Hartford Courant, mockingly suggests that since CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein suggested the network avoid booking talk radio hosts, first reported by TVNewser Tuesday, Dobbs must go too:

At least this means the end of that pompous, arrogant, and obnoxious Lou Dobbs. After all, Lou Dobbs is also a nationally syndicated radio talk show host. So Klein’s edict — “No Radio Talk Show Hosts on CNN” — must mean the end of Lou Dobbs.

Even Howard Dean‘s brother is getting in on the action. Ealier this week, Dobbs called the former presidential candidate and DNC chairman a “bloodsucking leftist.” Dobbs may be trying to clear the air, but Democracy of America, which Jim Dean chairs, wrote “Lou Dobbs is dangerous. It’s time for CNN and the United Stations Radio Network to take him off the air.”

Dobbs. Beck. O’Reilly. Olbermann. Yeah, August is a slow news month…

> Update: Add Doonesbury to the list of Dobbs critics.
