Covering the Fires: Cable Ratings

By Chris Ariens

The breaking news coverage of the California wildfires lifted the cable networks’ ratings across the board yesterday. CNN was the big winner in the P25-54 demo. Their total day average (3a-3aET) was 297,000 viewers. FNC averaged 282,000. MSNBC: 150,000.

In Primetime (8-11pmET), perhaps boosted by the oft-promoted Planet in Peril, CNN also came in first. CNN averaged 540,000 viewers in P25-54. FNC averaged 518,000. And MSNBC averaged 311,000.

In total viewers, FNC was the big winner, with the 8pmET version of The O’Reilly Factor leading the pack with 2.75M viewers.
