The cable networks continue coverage of downed Malaysian Airlines flight 370 which lost contact with air traffic control off the coast of Vietnam enroute to Beijing Saturday morning. The search for the aircraft, with 239 people on board, including at least three Americans, continues into the night.
Fox News began reporting the story at 7:45 last night on Greta Van Susteren’s show. Coverage continued with Megyn Kelly and into “Hannity.” FNC’s David Piper is reporting from the region. CNN/U.S. reported the news at 7:58pm and continued through Friday primetime with Anderson Cooper, Piers Morgan along with aviation expert Richard Quest and, in the overnight hours, a CNNI simulcast. MSNBC reported the news at 8:14 during Chris Hayes’ show with further updates in primetime.
Brian Williams updated “Nighlty News” for the West Coast with aviation correspondent Tom Costello reporting from Washington. Diane Sawyer updated “ABC World News” with Cynthia McFadden reporting. McFadden also anchored a West Coast special report around 10:15pmPT. “Nightline” lead with the news as well.
ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff is in Beijing. He attended a news conference earlier today where he thought he might, in his words,” knocked over” (left) by the Chinese media during the tense newsier. Correspondent Gloria Riviera is also in Beijing for ABC, and digital correspondent Joohee Cho is in Vietnam.
NBC News is reporting that two men who had their passports stolen were on the manifest, but are alive and well. An Italian man, currently in Thailand, had his passport stolen a year ago and an Austrian citizen reported his passport stolen two years ago while traveling in Asia.
