Couric Takes on Media for “Unfair, Hostile ” of Clinton

By SteveK

Patrick Gavin of brother blog FishbowlDC reports on CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric’s speech at the Alice Award Luncheon Gala yesterday. “However you feel about her politics, I feel that Sen. [Hillary] Clinton received some of the most unfair, hostile coverage I’ve ever seen,” Couric said.

She took a shot at NBC correspondent Lee Cowan (although not by name), for saying in January it was “hard to stay objective” while covering Sen. Barack Obama.

“That’s your job,” she said, suggesting he, “find another line of work.”

Gavin also notes something said by emcee Barbara Harrison (of D.C.’s Channel 4): “Katie, you’re a real fighter, and I’m watching where you’re going next.”

> Update: Someone at the event tells TVNewser Harrison continued the comment, saying, “Of course, we want you to stay right where you are. But whatever you do, you’ll be great.”
