Couric “Speaking For More Real People Than Her Competitors”

Ellen Gray writes in today’s Philadelphia Daily News about how the CBS Evening News has benefited from a political focus. With the exclusion of some lighter segments and the implementation of new political features, Gray writes, “I’m finding it’s Couric I turn to first, not last.”

One of those features added for the presidential campaign coverage was Katie Couric‘s “Primary Questions”. “No boxers vs. briefs queries, but stuff that goes to character, which, however much we’d like to pretend otherwise, is how a lot of us vote,” she writes.

Gray was also complimentary of the political team surrounding Couric, specifically Jeff Greenfield and Bob Schieffer. “When you sit Greenfield next to Couric’s popular predecessor, Bob Schieffer, you have another voice of reason,” Gray writes.
