Couric Is Trying To Make The Broccoli More Appetizing, But Viewers Won’t Eat It

By Brian

The more I read Rebecca Dana‘s piece about Katie Couric, the better it gets.

Like this lunch quote from Couric: “If news is broccoli, then our job is to make it more appetizing to people, so more of them want to eat it.”

Write that down.

Or how about this observation from Paul Friedman?

“The most stunning thing about this experience has been to discover how resistant people are to change. In the beginning, we seriously underestimated — as in, we were mistaken — about how different the audience wants you to be at 6:30. The answer, it turns out, is ‘Not that different.’ That has been a great disappointment to me.
