Atlanta-based CNN anchor Betty Nguyen has been honored with the Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards for outstanding volunteer achievement by a Time Warner employee.
Nguyen established Help the Hungry which provides humanitarian aid to impoverished areas in her birth country, Vietnam. Betty spends several weeks each year in Vietnam delivering food, clothing and medical supplies to families.
Nguyen, along with CNN’s VP of audience experience Kay Madati, were honored at a luncheon today in New York.

Each year for the past 28 years, Time Warner Inc. has presented Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards for outstanding volunteer achievement by Time Warner employees. The late Andrew Heiskell was chairman and CEO of Time Inc. and a passionate advocate for volunteerism.
This year, two of our CNN colleagues are Heiskell Award recipients: Betty Nguyen and Kay Madati.
Betty, an Atlanta-based anchor, established Help the Hungry, which for nearly nine years has provided humanitarian aid to impoverished areas in her birth country, Vietnam. Betty spends several weeks each year in flood-ravaged areas of Vietnam delivering food, clothing and medical supplies to families. She has also led fundraising efforts to provide relief to schools and orphanages there.
Kay, who is vice president of audience experience and based in Atlanta, founded and is chairman of the board of trustees of Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School (BECS) in New York. Kay and six friends opened BECS in 2003. Today it serves more than 700 students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
The Heiskell Awards recipients were honored today in New York at the annual Heiskell luncheon hosted by Jeff Bewkes. We’re all proud of and inspired by the service and selflessness of our colleagues, especially Betty and Kay. Congratulations, and thank you.
