CNN’s ‘Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown’ Returns with Backwards Episode

By Brian Flood

Season five of  the Emmy and Peabody award-winning CNN Original Series Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown kicks off tomorrow at 9pmET. The premiere episode features a twist, as Bourdain tours South Korea with each scene presented in reverse order.

“We often make use of creative license to present each location and episode of Parts Unknown in a fresh way. In the case of Korea, this is a return trip for Tony after a 10 year absence, and he was compelled to point out the culture’s vast modernization over that relatively brief time. We thought an episode in reverse might best illustrate that impression,” Parts Unknown EP Lydia Tenaglia told TVNewser.

Foods featured in the episode include Korean fried chicken, and a vintage “army” stew, budae jjigae, with Spam, canned baked beans, frankfurters, ramen noodles and Kimchi. The eight-episode season also features trips to Miami, Scotland, Madagascar, New Jersey, Budapest, Hawaii and Beirut.
