CNN Will Live Stream GOP Debate, Without Authentication

By Chris Ariens

As it did for its first two debates in September and October, CNN will offer a live stream of the GOP debate Tuesday night. Users will be able to watch live CNN TV on CNN.com’s Home Page and on mobile devices without logging in. CNN drew 4.5 million live stream viewers for the GOP debate on Sept. 16 and 4.3 million for the Democratic debate on Oct. 13. Fox News’s first debate was also live streamed, but users needed to be authenticated to access it.

The debate live stream is a continuation of CNN’s TVEverywhere initiative. From January to November 2015, CNN says its TVE platforms delivered a combined 19.4 million hours of video content, up 50 percent vs. the same time last year. November alone saw 3.2 million hours on CNNgo. The platform was acknowledged just yesterday by Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes an an industry conference: “The CNNGo product has been very well-received and used,” said Bewkes.
