CNN Touts Films, Original Series in Year-End Ratings

By Merrill Knox

There are still more than two weeks until the end of the year, but CNN is out early with its year-end ratings. In a further indication that the network is moving toward “more shows, less newscasts,” the network is touting the success of “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown,” as well as the six CNN Films that premiered this year.

Bourdain’s program ranked as the top regularly-scheduled weekend program on cable news in the A25-54 demographic in both the first (April to June) and second (September to November) seasons. The CNN Films that premiered this year, including “Blackfish,” “Escape Fire” and “Our Nixon,” collectively grew their time period’s prior four-week average in the A25-54 demo.  The premiere of “Blackfish” — which won the night among younger viewers  — posted CNN’s youngest median age for a primetime show (40) in over a decade.

We’ll have our usual end-of-year posts for all four cable news networks when the final numbers come in at the end of the month.
