As President Obama begins his final year in office, he will join CNN’s Anderson Cooper for a live town hall meeting on gun control Thursday. The event, Guns in America, is timed to coincide with the fifth anniversary next Friday of the Arizona shooting that killed six and wounded former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Obama is expected to announce a new push for gun control, and will use the CNN appearance to make his case. He will also take questions from the audience.

The event will take place at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
