CNN to Air Town Hall on Stanford Rape Case

CNN will air a one-hour town hall on the case of a Stanford University student sentenced to six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. The case has sparked outrage over the sentence amid allegations of preferential treatment.

CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield and Alisyn Camerota will co-host The Letter and The Law: The Stanford Rape Case Town Hall, airing Tuesday June at 9 p.m. ET. Audience members will include victims of sexual assault, experts, lawmakers and the families of assault victims.

Vice President Joe Biden wrote an open letter to the Stanford victim, who has not been named. “I am filled with furious anger–both that this happened to you and that our culture is still so broken that you were ever put in the position of defending your own worth,” Biden wrote.

This week Banfield devoted three segments of her daytime show to read in its entirety a statement written by the victim, who said, in part, “you took away my worth.”
