CNN Says Goodbye to San Francisco Bureau, Hello to Silicon Valley Bureau

By Alex Weprin

CNN is switching things up in Northern California, changing its San Francisco bureau to its Silicon Valley bureau. The network is realigning its resources in the region to add more Silicon Valley coverage, in addition to coverage of breaking news in and around San Francisco.

A CNN spokesperson says there will be no staffing changes as a result of the move, though the network will not be renewing its office space in the city. The network is also keeping all of its equipment and trucks for use by producers and correspondents.

Former San Francisco-based CNN correspondent Rusty Dornin told NewsBlues.com (subscription required):

We covered fires, floods, earthquakes, wars, the wacky world of SF politics, the Unabomber, and oh yes, Michael Jackson and Scott Peterson (ugh), to name a few. Farewell…it was a great run!”

That isn’t exactly the case, however, as all of those subjects will still be covered  by the new bureau.
