CNN correspondent Amara Walker has been named the official co-anchor of CNN’s New Day Weekend, joining Boris Sanchez.

She will anchor the program from CNN’s global headquarters in Atlanta—and continue to report on stories across the network’s programs and platforms.

Walker has been one of several anchors filling on the weekend morning show since the departure of Christi Paul to local news past summer.

As a correspondent for CNN, Walker covered the 2020 presidential election and was part of CNN’s election night coverage team.

In 2021, she reported on the Atlanta spa massacre and the subsequent outcry from the Asian-American community against the increasing hate and racist incidents due to misplaced blame for the Covid-19 pandemic and Donald Trump’s rhetoric. Walker also co-hosted a primetime special with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Victor Blackwell, and Ana Cabrera called Afraid: Fear in America’s Communities of Color.

Walker has been with CNN since 2014, joining the network as an anchor for CNN International. She and Michael Holmes anchored CNN Today, a morning show for CNN International’s Asia audience, which ran from December 2014 till September 2020.
