CNN Launches an Anthony Bourdain Tribute Book

By A.J. Katz

We’re approaching one year since the tragic death of Anthony Bourdain. Time flies, huh?

One way CNN has kept Bourdain’s memory alive has been by airing repeats of Parts Unknown on weekends in the late evening/early morning timeslots. But the network is now paying tribute to the late food and culture TV journalist in a more significant way, by launching a book in memory of his extraordinary life.

Anthony Bourdain Remembered is set to debut in hardcover on May 28, and one can pre-order it on Amazon right now.

The book was created, edited and produced by CNN execs and friends, Amy Entelis, Katie Issacson and Carolyn Disbrow with Girl Friday Productions last fall as a keepsake for Bourdain’s daughter; but the estate has since agreed to make it available to the public.

Harper Collins’ imprint Ecco is publisher of the book.

“Anthony Bourdain Remembered reminds me of the joy that he brought to everyone who knew him or watched him on-air as he moved in his particular way around the globe,” says Ecco president and publisher Daniel Halpern. “It is the perfect memento for those of us who, through his shows, came to know the others who inhabit our planet – and an homage to the world’s most beloved traveler.”

Amazon has a summary of the book, which includes commentary from former President Barack Obama, who famously grabbed beer and noodles with Bourdain at Bún chả Hương Liên in Vietnam; as well commentary from celebrity chef and long-time friend of Bourdain’s Eric Ripert.

Anthony Bourdain Remembered brings together memories and anecdotes from fans reminiscing about Bourdain’s unique achievements and his enduring effect on their lives as well as comments from chefs, journalists, filmmakers, musicians, and writers inspired by Bourdain including Barack Obama, Eric Ripert, Jill Filipovic, Ken Burns, Questlove, and José Andrés, among many others.

These remembrances give us a glimpse of Bourdain’s widespread impact through his political and social commitments; his dedication to travel and eating well (and widely); and his love of the written word, along with his deep compassion, open-mindedness, and interest in lives different from his own.
