CNN Hypes “Exclusive” Darfur Mob Video

We’re learning more about the incidents that forced CNN correspondent Nic Robertson to flee an aid camp in Darfur today.

“The crowd at the Kalma camp turned ugly when someone misinterpreted what an Oxfam interpreter was telling officials from the UK-based charity and decided he was a government spy,” CNN.com says. The interpreter fled in a U.N. vehicle. “The vehicle, in which Robertson was riding, finally pulled away from the crowd. Video shot by CNN photographer Neil Bennett showed several refugees surrounding the vehicle, and angry shouts could be heard.”

CNN wallpapered the “exclusive” video on Live From… and The Situation Room. Robertson was holding a cell phone camera, and the shaky video is dramatic, but not all that illuminating. An e-mailer writes: “Anyone else notice that CNN/US is replaying the video of Nic Robertson being shooed out of Darfur over and over again while CNNI is actually giving airtime to the humanitarian crisis there?”
