CNN and FBN Duel As ‘Fastest Growing Cable Network’

By Brian Flood

CNN ran full-page ads in Thursday’s Wall Street Journal and New York Times thanking America for a successful 2015 and claiming that it is the “fastest growing cable network in America.” CNN’s fine print stipulates their “fastest growing” status is among the Top 40 cable networks in total day for both the A25-54 and A18-49 demos.

But actually, during the time frame that CNN isolates, FXX is the fastest growing cable network in the A25-54 demo, while HLN leads among the A18-49 viewers.

Meanwhile, Fox Business Network ran an ad on Monday that appeared in The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and Adweek. The message? It might ring a bell: FBN is the “#1 fastest growing cable network in 2015.”

CNN’s fine print factors in here, because, while it is the fastest-growing among all networks in total viewers, FBN is not among the Top 40 cable networks. (In Q3 it was No. 87)

We’ll have the FINAL cable ratings when the year officially comes to a close, on Dec. 30. For your reading pleasure, here’s how FNC, CNN, MSNBC and HLN finished 2014.
