Clarissa Ward Makes CNN Debut Reporting Inside Syria

By Mark Joyella

CNN senior international correspondent Clarissa Ward, who joined the network from CBS News last month, made her CNN debut this morning with a report from inside Syria. “Welcome to CNN,” said New Day co-anchor Alisyn Camerota.

Ward, who has traveled extensively throughout the region and made nearly a dozen trips to Syria since war broke out in 2011, met with Kurdish fighters trying to drive ISIS out of the city of Hasakah in northern Syria.

Ward detailed the fighters’ collection of weapons–from home-made mortars and hunting rifles to more complex hand-held devices capable of giving coordinates for enemy positions, provided by a joint U.S.-Kurdish operation.
