Appearing on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show, CNN chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour was put in the uncomfortable position by host Larry Wilmore of making the call: who’s ultimately more viable at the moment, ISIS or Brian Williams?
Wilmore asked Amanpour, “What happens first: we defeat ISIS, or Brian Williams anchoring again?” Amanpour laughed, but didn’t dodge the question. “Oh my goodness. We defeat ISIS.”
As CNN Commentary notes, Amanpour did share some more serious thoughts on the fight against ISIS:
“Are we taking ISIS seriously enough?” (Wilmore) asked her later on.
Amanpour said, “I don’t think so. I don’t think there’s enough committed to the fight against ISIS, ISIS has to be beaten, ISIS can be beaten without putting American boots on the ground, as one counter terrorism official said today, ‘America’s doing it half-assed, and can’t win half-assed,’ but one thing about the comedic act, actually, comedians in the Arab world are mocking ISIS and taking them down online, in that capacity.”
