Christiane Amanpour in Talks with ABC?

By kevin

Politico’s Michael Calderone reports this afternoon that CNN’s Christiane Amanpour is in talks with ABC News for the vacant moderator spot on “This Week.”

Amanpour, through a spokesperson declined to comment, but sources with knowledge of the hiring process say she’s now in the mix of internal and external candidates ABC is considering to replace George Stephanopoulous, who left for “Good Morning America” in December.

Amanpour, known for her international reporting and interviews with world leaders, recently got her own show on CNN in September, “Amanpour,” which airs Sundays in the U.S. and every evening on CNNI. ABC has been rotating anchors since Stephanopoulos’ departure (Matthew Dowd hosts this Sunday).

A CNN spokesperson declined to comment on the report, and an ABC spokesperson told Politico that ABC News “talked to lots of people inside and outside.”

More: Insiders tell us that ABC News President David Westin held an open meeting with the DC bureau today and was asked about the Amanpour rumor. He told the staff that no decision had been made and that they’d “been talking to several people inside and outside ABC.” Westin said he expected a decision to be made “in a few weeks.”
