Chris Hayes Apologizes After Labeling Segregationist Governor a Republican

By Alex Weprin

MSNBC “All In” host Chris Hayes apologized on Twitter, after a graphic on last night’s program labeled segregationist Alabama Governor George Wallace a Republican, instead of a Democrat.

“This was a stupid, inexcusable, historically illiterate mistake.I should have caught it and apologize for failing to,” Hayes tweeted.

The mistake will also be acknowledged and corrected on “All In” at 8 PM this evening.

While Hayes is generally more subdued than your typical primetime cable news host, he has gotten in hot water before. About a year ago, he apologized for comments he made on his weekend show “Up” when he said he was “uncomfortable” calling soldiers “heroes” because the term can be used to justify potentially unpopular or improper actions by others in the government.

Update: Video of the apology, after the jump.
