Chris Cuomo Gets Emotional During His Final Appearance on New Day

As he heads to prime time Chris Cuomo has signed off New Day.

Cuomo got emotional on his final show this morning, alongside Alisyn Camerota and Cuomo’s wife and two of his kids. “Thank you for letting me do it,” Cuomo said to his family. “I won’t there be at night. Homework will be easier for you now because mommy’s going to be the one telling you to read.”

As he told ad buyers at Turner’s upfront last week, Cuomo hopes the new show Cuomo Prime Time, will offer a voice that’s somewhere in the middle of his new 9 p.m. cable competitors, Sean Hannity on Fox News and Rachel Maddow on MSNBC.

“The fight is at night,” Cuomo said this morning.

John Berman will replace Cuomo and co-anchor New Day alongside Camerota.

Cuomo hosted CNN’s 9 p.m. hour for the entire month of January, a stint which ended up being an audition for a full-time gig in the hour. The show did pretty well in the ratings department, often building on its 8 p.m. AC360 lead-in, particularly among adults 25-54, the demographic that advertisers of news use to buy ad time.

Here’s a mashup of some of greatest moments of the last 3+ years.
