This statement is by a spokesperson for Charlie Rose:

“Charlie Rose, anchor and executive editor of CHARLIE ROSE, the PBS late night interview program, experienced shortness of breath while in Syria last week for his interview with President Assad. On advice from his cardiologist in New York, he flew to Paris on Friday where he was examined by cardiologists at The Georges-Pompidou European Hospital. Based on their evaluation, Charlie entered the hospital on Saturday. He will undergo mitral valve repair in the morning in Paris. The surgical team will be led by Alain Carpentier, the most honored mitral valve surgeon in the world and chairman of the hospital’s Cardiovascular Surgery Department.

Charlie will recuperate in Paris for the next 7 days before returning to New York. His doctors expect him to be back at work by the end of April. In the interim, his program will be hosted by a series of journalists and foreign policy experts selected by his staff.”

> The AP: Mitral valve repair is “an open-heart procedure to treat narrowing or regurgitation of the valve, according to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.”
