ABC’s Charlie Gibson will be the recipient of the 2008 Sol Taishoff Award for Distinguished Contributions to Broadcast Journalism.

Gibson will receive the honor at a dinner in Washington in February.

“The judges cited [Gibson’s] professionalism and judgment in dealing with breaking news stories like the shootings at Virginia Tech and analytical stories involving the U.S. economy,” according to a Foundation press release.

Past recipients include Bob Schieffer, Gwen Ifill, Dan Rather, and the late Tim Russert.
