Charles Osgood’s Bow Tie Is Going to the Smithsonian

By Chris Ariens

As Charles Osgood handed the anchor reins to Jane Pauley at CBS Sunday Morning yesterday, Pauley had some news for him.

“The bow tie, Charlie, you are wearing right now is bound for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, where it will join the original stopwatch of our sister broadcast 60 Minutes as part of its permanent collection,” Pauley told Osgood, adding, “Proof, as if anyone needed it, that you have made broadcast history.”

“Sunday Morning has been the most satisfying 22 years of my life in broadcasting,” Osgood said, announcing Pauley as his replacement. “I’m honored beyond words to follow in your footsteps,” Pauley said.
