CBS’s Gustav Plans: Katie Couric to the Gulf, Bob Schieffer at the RNC

CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric will report from the Gulf coast for tomorrow’s broadcast while Bob Schieffer remains in St. Paul to cover the RNC. (The photo to the right was taken one year ago today when Couric reported from Baghdad).

The Early Show’s Harry Smith and weather anchor Dave Price will be in the region for tomorrow’s show.

CBS’s RNC prime time specials will include coverage from the convention as well as from the Gulf.

CBS NEWS PLANS FOR COVERAGE OF HURRICANE GUSTAV

CBS News will offer comprehensive coverage of Hurricane Gustav as the storm heads towards the Gulf coast. Following is a summary of coverage plans:

• CBS EVENING NEWS Anchor and Managing Editor Katie Couric will report from the Gulf coast beginning tomorrow (6:30-7:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC.

• CBS News Correspondents Cynthia Bowers, Randall Pinkston, Byron Pitts, Dave Price, Tracy Smith and Hari Sreenivasan will report from the area for all CBS News broadcasts.

• THE EARLY SHOW’s Harry Smith will anchor from the area beginning tomorrow morning (7:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), along with EARLY SHOW Weather Anchor Price.

• CBS News’ live Republican National Convention primetime specials—Monday, Sept. 1 through Thursday, Sept. 4 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET; check local listings) will include coverage of both the hurricane and the RNC.

&bull: Tonight’s CBS EVENING NEWS (6:00-6:30 PM, ET) will be anchored by Russ Mitchell from New York, with Bob Schieffer contributing from St. Paul.
