Crime newsmagazine 48 HOURS is co-opting CBS’s No. 1 drama, NCIS, for a new six-part series digging into some of the biggest cases handled by the real-life Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

The 6-part series 48 HOURS: NCIS debuts Tuesday April 25 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, and will be narrated by Rocky Carroll, star of CBS’s NCIS.

“For the first time, viewers will get to know these agents, who sometimes chase clues for a decade or more seeking justice. These are the cases they can’t forget,” said senior executive producer Susan Zirinsky.

The U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which just celebrated its 50th anniversary, is responsible for investigating felony crimes, preventing terrorism and protecting secrets for the Marine Corps and the Navy.

“The range of the real-life NCIS missions is quite extraordinary,” Zirinsky said. “For them, the stakes couldn’t be higher.”
