CBS has announced it is closing the regional offices of its Newspath affiliate news service in New York, Dallas, Chicago and Charlotte next month.
The closures affect about about a dozen positions in those cities, though CBS says the headcount will remain the same, and employees in affected cities can apply for positions at a new centralized office in New York, where some positions will be added.
“This restructuring will help to increase the amount of news content we provide while maintaining the quality service affiliates have come to expect,” CBS says in a statement. “As technology improves, Newspath continues to evolve and grow. Shifting to a centralized operation in New York will allow the service to effectively provide more information to our stations rapidly and efficiently.”
The regional offices will close Friday, Feb. 17.
