CBS Producer Fires: NYSun Publishes Name

David Blum thinks it’s strange that “in an era when plagiarists get dismissed and outed weekly by their employers at news organizations around the country,” CBS has declined to disclose the name of the producer who wrote Katie Couric‘s library card script.

So in today’s New York Sun, he does it for them: “According to sources within CBS News, her name is Melissa McNamara, a cbsnews.com Web producer (and herself a blogger for cbsnews.com) who joined the network in October 2005 after working as a news assistant in the Washington bureau of the New York Times and as a researcher at CNN.”

A CBS rep says the net didn’t name her because “the producer has paid the necessary price…”
