TVSpy reports on Atlanta CBS affiliate reporter Ben Swann whose 5-minute story about Pizzagate earlier this week stirred up the controversy all over again.
In his Reality Check segment Tuesday night, the WGCL reporter questioned whether the accusation that a pedophilia ring was run out of D.C. pizzeria Comet Ping Pong was really in fact “fake news.” Though that is the conclusion of D.C. police, reputable news organizations, and fact-checking sites, not to mention the unmitigated denial of the pizzeria’s owner.
“WGCL-TV in Atlanta is not owned or operated by CBS. As such, CBS News has no editorial control over the station’s news product,” said Richard Huff, executive director of Communications for CBS News.
The CBS affiliate is owned by Meredith, the New York-based print, TV and digital media company. TVSpy sought comment from Meredith but has not heard back.
But in an interview with the Daily Beast, the station’s news director said, “Ben was meticulous with his fact-finding and sourcing on his Reality Check segment.”
