CBS Honors 50th Anniversary Of 30-Minute ‘Evening News’ By Going Black And White

By Alex Weprin

50 years ago on Labor Day, CBS expanded its “CBS Evening News” to a half-hour, from what was then the standard 15 minutes. Every other broadcaster would eventually follow suit.

“CBS Evening News” anchor Scott Pelley honored the anniversary by taking yesterday’s newscast back in time, and by going black and white. Pelley also traveled to New York’s Grand Central Terminal, which was then the home of Walter Cronkite‘s “CBS Evening News.”
