CBS News national security correspondent Dave Martin had a scoop at the top of the CBS Evening News tonight:
“A U.S. Air Force gunship has conducted a strike against suspected members of Al Qaeda in the African country of Somalia,” he reported. “The targets included the senior Al Qaeda leader in East Africa…”
Martin also noted: “Officially… this air strike never happened, or at least U.S. officials refuse to confirm that it happened. And because it occurred in such a remote location, there may never be a smoking gun.”
