Cars.com is Pulling its Ads From Sean Hannity’s Program

By A.J. Katz

There appear to be more problems for Fox News on the advertiser front. The national car inventory company Cars.com says it’s going to pull all of its ads from Sean Hannity‘s prime time program. The news was first reported by BuzzFeed.

The move comes as Hannity and the network have been criticized in recent days for reporting an unverified conspiracy theory about the July 2016 murder of former Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich. Hannity has reported details of the story on his radio and TV shows that have been widely regarded as bogus. He has alleged that Rich leaked DNC emails to WikiLeaks, and that his murder, which Hannity claims was ordered by the Clintons, was a result of that action.

DC Metro Police have already stated they believe Rich’s murder was a result of a botched robbery.

“The fact that we advertise on a particular program doesn’t mean that we agree or disagree, or support or oppose, the content. We don’t have the ability to influence content at the time we make our advertising purchase. In this case, we’ve been watching closely and have recently made the decision to pull our advertising from Hannity,” the company said in a statement.

It’s unknown how long the company would keep its ads off Hannity’s show, which is regularly No. 1 in its 10 p.m. timeslot.

The advertiser pullout comes just over one month after the network let go of its then-signature on-air personality Bill O’Reilly in the aftermath of a New York Times report that O’Reilly and Fox News paid $13 million to 5 women who accused the star of harassment. That particular story sparked a massive advertiser boycott and two public protests outside FNC headquarters.

Fox News has not yet responded to a request for comment.
