Cable Ranker: CNN Finishes No. 2 After Record-Setting GOP Debate

By Brian Flood

CNN DebateCNN  was No. 2 in and No. 5 in total day viewers among all ad-supported cable networks for the week of Sept. 14. CNN was given a huge boost by the GOP debate after ranking No. 34 in prime time the previous week.

CNN averaged 3.75 million viewers between 8-11 p.m. ET, finishing behind only ESPN’s NFL-heavy content. CNN’s record-setting debate cracked the Top 10 most-watched cable programs of all time with roughly 23 million viewers but failed to beat last month’s Fox News GOP debate.

Fox News finished No. 3 in both categories, while MSNBC ranked No. 27 in prime time and No. 22 in total day. USA and TBS join FNC, CNN and ESPN among the Top 5 in prime time viewers.
