Cable News Viewership Up Double, Triple Digits

By Chris Ariens

Yesterday we showed you how the cable news networks are doing in the ratings as Q1 ’09 comes to a close. Final numbers will be released early next week. But today we have a snapshot, provided by Turner Research, of how the cable news networks are faring for Total Day programming (Mon-Sun, 6a-6a; Nielsen Media Research) through last week. Year-over-year HLN has shown the most growth in the A25-54 demo while Fox News is up the most in Total Viewers.

When compared to the post-2004 election period, all the cable news networks have shown growth, with MSNBC up triple digits – up 115% in the demo and 120% in Total Viewers.
