Cable Network Ranker: July, 2012

It was a big month in July, punctuated by the awful shooting in Colorado. The big news did not necessarily materialize on the cable network ranker, however, with the cable channels about where they are on any other given month.

Fox News led the way among cable newsers, placing 4th in primetime among ad-supported cable networks, and 5th in total day. FNC had 1.72M total viewers in prime and 1.07M in total day. MSNBC placed 23rd in primetime and 29th in total day, drawing 713,000 and 432,000 viewers, respectively. CNN placed 34th in both primetime and total day with 486,000 and 355,000 viewers, respectively.

HLN was 40th in primetime and 43rd in total day with 318,000 and 245,00 viewers, respectively. Current TV was 93rd in primetime and total day, with 35,000 and 28,000 viewers, respectively.

Among the business networks: CNBC led the way as usual, placing 56th in primetime and 57th in total day, drawing 179,000 and 135,000 viewers, respectively. Fox Business was 88th in primetime and 84th in total day with 68,000 and 56,000 viewers, respectively. Bloomberg TV isn’t rated by Nielsen, and hasn’t been since launching in 1994.
