Cable Network Ranker: Fox News No. 1 in Total Day, CNN Top 10 in Prime Time

Fox News regained its status as basic cable’s most-watched network in total day. For the week of April 25, Fox News averaged 1.2 million total viewers, knocking off defending champ Nickelodeon, Adult Swim, TNT and HGTV. The 1.2 million total viewer average in the daypart is even with the comparable week in 2015.

Fox News finished No. 2 in total prime time viewers (2.0 million) behind a NBA playoffs-focused TNT (2.6 million), but ahead of ESPN, USA and HGTV. Fox News was steady in the daypart year-over-year.

CNN was up 8 percent in total prime time viewers from the comparable week in 2015, thanks in part to its coverage of the Acela Primary on April 26 and the White House Correspondents Dinner on April 30. The network ranked No. 7 in basic cable (1.25 million), up from its 8th place finish for the comparable week in 2015.

CNN was the No. 1 cable news network of the week in A25-54. This is only the third time CNN has won three consecutive weeks in the last 15 years. CNN finished No. 14 in prime time and Fox News finished No. 18 in all of basic cable last week.

MSNBC cracked the basic cable top 15 in average prime time viewers, finishing No. 13 this past week (885,000). MSNBC finished No.25 for the comparable week in 2015 (530,000).

Lastly, Fox Business’ Varney & Company defeated CNBC in total viewers for the first time in its history.
