Cable Network Ranker: As Viewers Tire of Foreign News, CNN Drops Out of Top 10

By Alex Weprin

The situation in Libya continues, but viewers seem to be tuning out, as CNN has dropped out of the top 10 cable network rankings for the week of March 21-27.

CNN, which placed ninth in primetime and eighth in total day the week of the 14th, fell to 24th in primetime and 16th in total day the week of the 21st.

The drop seems to indicate that viewers that were turning to CNN as the situations in Japan and Libya were still new are beginning to tune out as the problems continue. That is despite the fact that CNN contineuis to produce compelling content from Libya such as the report from CNN International correspondent Frederik Pleitgen below:

Fox News Channel and MSNBC remained more or less stable the week of the 21st. FNC remained near the top of the cable network chart, dropping one spot in both primetime (2nd to 3rd) and total day (5th to 6th) and finishing behind only USA Network and college basketball-fueled TBS in prime.

MSNBC gained one spot in primetime (28th to 27th) and dropped one spot in total day (28th to 29th).

The full cable network ranker is after the jump.
