Business Networks Plan #BlackMonday Special Coverage

By Chris Ariens

The three business TV networks are planning specials about what happened today, and what could come tomorrow.

CNBC Special Report: Markets in Turmoil airs tonight at 7 p.m. ET anchored by Carl Quintanilla, Jim Cramer and Sara Eisen. Fox Business will present a special edition of Lou Dobbs Tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. ET. Liz Claman will be anchoring a special commercial-free edition of Countdown to the Closing Bell from the floor of the NYSE. And Bloomberg presents two specials: at 4 p.m. ET What’d You Miss?: Turmoil in the Markets is anchored by Joe Weisenthal and Alix Steel and a Markets Day Special with Matt Miller airs at 6 p.m. ET. Bloomberg will begin Asia coverage live at 7 p.m. (preempting Charlie Rose) as the Asian markets open.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped more than 1,000 points in the first minutes of trading. That’s never happened before. Still, on a percentage basis, this is nothing like Black Monday of 1987 when the Dow finished down more than 22 percent for the day. At its worst this morning, the Dow was down 6 percent.
