Bruce Jenner: ‘For All Intents and Purposes I Am a Woman’

By Chris Ariens

It only took the first four minutes of tonight’s 2-hour Diane Sawyer special for the much-speculated revelation to come.

“I’ve always been confused about my gender identity,” said Bruce Jenner. “I hate the word, ‘girl stuck in a guy’s body.’ I hate that terminology. I’m me. I’m me. I’m a person, and this is who I am. I am not stuck in anybody’s body. It’s just who I am as a human being. My brain is much more female than male. It’s hard for people to understand that. But that’s what my soul is.”

Jenner, 65, then took out his pony tail, “Yeah, why not, we’re talking about all of this stuff. Yeah, let’s take the damn ponytail out,” Jenner says. Sawyer then asks: “Are you a woman?”

Yes. for all intents and purposes, I’m a woman.”

Sawyer then asked if it was all a publicity stunt. His response:

“This is the last TV interview he will do as Bruce,” said Sawyer.

And that was all before the first commercial break.

The first hour closed with Jenner talking about hitting bottom as the paparazzi followed his every move. “That night I thought, ‘oh, it’s, like, over.’ And I was walking up and down this hall right here, back and forth, back and forth all night long, heart’s pounding. And I thought, wouldn’t the easiest thing to be right now — and I could see where people get to that — is go in the room, get a gun. Boom. You know? Pain’s over. Done. You know. Go to a better place. And I thought, nah, I can’t do something like that. I mean, I wanna know how this story ends.

Jenner said step-daughter Kim Kardashian was the first of his kids to spot him in a dress. “It was like this big secret in the family and we never talked about it again.” Jenner told Sawyer the irony of being on one of the most-watched reality shows on TV was, his reality couldn’t be shared:
